The student team of IMS Center won the PHM data challenge competition
The 2008 International Conference on Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) organized a data challenge competition that was open to all potential conference attendees. The goal of the competition is to estimate remaining life of an unspecified component using data-driven techniques (Refer to here for details). The competition started in March and was closed on June 2. The final result of the competition was announced on June 13.
The student team of IMS Center started working on the challenge problem in the middle of May and finally won the competition in the category of “Student” with the score of 5636.06 [link]. The score is also top in all three categories, including “Professional,” “IEEE Gold,” and “Student”.
Tianyi Wang, leader of the team, was invited to attend the PHM conference at Denver, CO, in October of 2008, and present the algorithm used for the challenge problem.
